VICTORIAN STUDY DAY

LOCATION: LONDON OR ONLINE 

This cross-site study day allows students visit both the London Metropolitan Archives and the Royal Courts of Justice to explore crime and punishment in the Victorian period. During this Victorian Study Day pupils will:

  • Visit the London Metropolitan Archives and the Royal Courts of Justice
  • Examine original archival material to gain a social and historical context of justice in the Victorian era
  • Prepare for and enact a mock trial based on the real case of a Victorian boy accused of stealing
  • Discuss and debate historical sentencing options and compare these to sentencing options in the present day
