Asking for It Celebratory Event

Friday 20 June
5pm-7.30pm

Join us to celebrate our current exhibition, Asking for It, a powerful and award-winning photographic series by Jayne Jackson that challenges the persistent culture of victim-blaming in cases of sexual and gender-based violence. Inspired by tragic real-world cases, the series compels audiences to confront their own biases and question outdated narratives that perpetuate harm.

More than just a photographic series, Asking for It is a call to action. By challenging perceptions, fostering dialogue, and demanding change, Jackson’s work ignites critical conversations about consent, accountability, and justice.

Change the narrative. Challenge the blame.

In collaboration with our co-production community group, Broxtowe Women’s Project, the exhibition also features creative writing and artwork from the group in response to the themes of the exhibition.

The evening will start at 5pm with refreshments and guests will be invited to explore the Asking For It exhibition and how our communities have been responding to the themes of the exhibition.

During the evening will be a free 30 minute interactive trial performance in our Criminal Courtroom, linked to the themes of the exhibitions. Join us and take part in our historical courtroom performance, where the defendants might not have been as guilty as they seem. Perhaps they were the victim rather than the perpetrator. It’s up to you, the Jury to decide.

A very special thank you to all who contributed to this poignant project, and to our project partners. We are deeply grateful to Arts Council England for their generous funding, which made this exhibition possible.
