Drawing the Unseen with Ismail Khokon

This engaging workshop invites participants to explore drawing as a mindful practice, enhancing focus, reducing stress, and fostering a deeper connection to the world around them. Using charcoal and other sustainable materials, participants will focus on form, light, and composition while discovering how public art reflects cultural diversity and community connection.

Inspired by Rachael Carter’s sculpture at Nottingham’s Broadmarsh, this session demonstrates how art in public spaces can reshape how galleries and museums engage with the public. Through sketching live sculptures, participants will gain insight into the sculptor's creative process, uncovering the hidden “secrets” of sculpture—its materials, techniques, histories, and symbolic meanings.

This tour reimagines the traditional museum, transforming it into an open, dynamic platform where contemporary sculpture meets the street, making art part of everyday life. Through this hands-on experience, participants will not only enhance their artistic skills but also engage with the cultural significance of public art in their communities.

This workshop includes a walk to the Standing In This Place sculpture in Broadmarsh.
