Hats Off: Emblems and Insignia

In the workshop, we will begin by looking at the 30 Objects Representing Justice Exhibition and other archive materials. The focus will be on emblems, badges and insignia used to decorate hats to establish the identity of the wearer.

You will be working with Milliner Joanne Rost, who will guide you through the design and making process.

Each participant will be given a small, ready-made hat base. You will start by selecting a colour scheme and designing an emblem for your hat.

You will then use felt, ribbons, buttons, needle and thread and some adhesive to create the trimming for your hat.

At the end of the workshop, you should have a completed small, decorated perching hat.
