Playing at Mugshots

This creative art and interpretation workshop will focus on one of the objects in The 30 Objects exhibition - the mugshots. The group will be asked to interpret the mugshot by looking at the craze for Mugshot Playing Cards of the rich and famous under arrest in the early 2000’s. We will recontextualise the historical by creating our own mugshot playing card with a negative and a positive front or face, rather than two identical fronts or faces, so participants can understand that even if someone is incarcerated socially or emotionally, they can incrementally begin to choose to claim freedom. Participants can use their photographs if they want to make their own mugshot playing card, they can use photocopies of mugshots, or draw a fabricated image.
