Senses of Resistance – Creative Workshop with Michelle Hubbard

Words, sounds, taste, and smell come together in this powerful sensory workshop.

Inspired by objects removed from the human body—items swallowed by people in incarceration—we’ll explore how the body responds to oppression and control. In contrast, we’ll work with foods we freely choose to eat, transforming them into instruments of expression. Participants will use ingredients like rice, pulses, beans, seeds, cinnamon, root vegetables, and star anise to create sound makers and contribute to a collective soundscape.

Alongside this, you'll shape words, symbols, and images using these same materials—turning everyday foods into powerful tools for storytelling, resistance, and connection.

Join us to explore how the senses can speak volumes.
