Standing in the Present and Future – Creative Sculpture Workshop with Paula Pontes

Inspired by the powerful sculpture Standing in This Place, this workshop invites participants to explore themes of identity, legacy, and social justice. The artwork evokes deep emotion and offers insight into how women from different ethnic backgrounds contributed to the British Empire. Though their roles varied and their experiences of social disadvantage differed, they shared the burden of carrying an unimaginable weight.

In this reflective and creative session, you’ll be guided to make two small sculptures of yourself: one representing where you stand in society today, and another embodying where you hope to stand - free from the barriers of social injustice. This is a space to tell your story, honour your heritage, and imagine a future shaped by empowerment and possibility.

Join us to express your creativity, reflect on your journey, and consider the legacy you want to leave behind.
