The Ominous Times

Explore the world of Victorian printing and customise your own broadsheet newspaper. Victorian Penny Broadsheets were sold at street corners, outside Music Halls and at events. They were often characterised by their satirical comment upon contentious matters or issues which were affecting public opinion, perhaps political.

During the workshop, you will be invited to find the letters for your name, which will be added to a headline story on the broadsheet. Chris Barker from the Smallprint Company will demonstrate the press and guide you through the process of letterpress printing. You will be able to use original moveable type from the Smallprint Co collection.

The Smallprint Company is a heritage print studio that specialises in letterpress. Chris Barker is the founder, printer, designer, and artist, and has over 25 years of experience in print and design.
