Words of Support: Writing in Solidarity with Leanne Moden

Asking for It is a powerful and award-winning exhibition by artist Jayne Jackson, using photographs to challenge victim-blaming in cases of gender-based violence. Using a mugshot format, Jackson exposes the damaging narratives that shift blame onto survivors of sexual and domestic abuse. This creative writing workshop will use Jackson’s work – and the letters of support sent to Mrs Beatrice Pace after her trial for the murder of her abusive husband in 1927 – to explore issues of support and solidarity. We’ll use figurative writing techniques to create poems, stories and letters based on the themes of the exhibition. Please note: this workshop will include respectful discussion of domestic abuse and gender-based violence.
