Artists in Residence at C2C Social Action
In 2021 Emma Davies, lead artist for Artists in Residence at C2C, along with artists Clare Abbatt, Priya Chohan-Padia, and Sam Gibson, worked with C2C Grows and women that are or have been in a variety of vulnerable situations. Together they co-created and co-produced a multitude of artworks that talk about a person-centered approach, ecology, and care as a unique holistic experience.
C2C Social Action works with people at any stage of the criminal justice system, and particularly supports women across Northamptonshire, who have either been impacted by the criminal justice system; identified to be at risk of offending; experiencing mental ill health; or have experienced domestic violence, trauma, and poverty. Intending to reduce reoffending they support, inspire, and motivate people to move forward with their lives and give them the confidence to contribute positively to society.
In this special Project Lab display, you'll find more information on workshops led by C2C's Artists in Residence, as well as sculptures, drawings, writings, and photographs from the participants. As you explore, listen to a unique soundscape made by artist Emma Davies and discover a site-specific intervention on the windows by SmallKid to accompany and enhance the display.
During 2022 the National Justice Museum explored the wild flora in C2C gardens, in Northampton, and their impact on human well-being. To celebrate plants as our allies and companions we have carefully selected 3 plants: Elderflower, Mint, and Nettle. In the Project Lab, you'll find a Tea Apothecary to make your own blend of these herbal remedies to enjoy.
The works on display aim to highlight a model of co-producing that provides adaptive learning, supports knowledge sharing, celebrates difference, enables personal development, and supports community cohesion.
