Blueprints of the Trade

Unleash your creativity and dive into a fascinating, hands-on exploration of history, craft, and social change. In this unique workshop, you’ll master the art of cyanotype—a captivating, historical photographic process used to create striking Prussian blueprints.

Experiment with this distinct medium, using a mix of real objects, written words, hand-drawn images, and photo negatives to craft your artwork. Through these layered techniques, you will visually document and contrast the tools of the past with those used by prisoners today.

Together, we’ll reflect on the traditional skills and trades prisoners once learned—many of which are rapidly dying out in today’s technological world—and compare them to modern skills required today. Whether you are a history buff, a photography enthusiast, or looking to try a unique new craft, this workshop offers a thought-provoking space to create beautiful prints while exploring a powerful story of human industry.
