Chains of Production
Inspired by the Work in Prisons exhibition (coming soon), this creative workshop invites participants to explore the past and present of prison labour through hands-on making.
Using clay, participants will create chain links that represent connections between labour, industry, and everyday life. Drawing on historical prison work such as sewing, weaving, and manufacturing, alongside contemporary discussions around global supply chains, the workshop encourages reflection on how labour is organised and often hidden from view.
Through shaping, imprinting, and assembling their pieces, participants will consider ideas of repetition, control, and value, as well as their own place within wider systems of production and consumption. The session concludes with a collaborative installation, linking individual pieces into a collective chain.
This workshop offers a thoughtful and accessible way to engage with complex issues around justice, work, and social systems.
