Face and Jar

Led by artist Xin Chen, this hands-on workshop takes inspiration from the 17th-century Bellarmine jar discovered during archaeological excavations at the National Justice Museum site.

These salt-glazed stoneware vessels, often featuring the bearded face of a man, once held beer or wine and carried both practical and mythical meanings.

Using air-dry clay and the coiling technique, participants will create their own small versions of Bellarmine jars, reimagining the expressive face with a personal interpretation.

The session encourages playful engagement with material and history, tracing connections between everyday objects and cultural memory.
