May Half Term Activities

Join us over May half-term for a range of family-friendly and exciting creative workshops!

There’ll be different activities every day, all free and open to all ages.

Tuesday 26 May – Object Handling (11am-1pm)

Get hands-on with history in this special object-handling session in the 1800s cell block.

Discover rarely seen items from our fascinating collection, each linked to our forthcoming exhibition exploring work in prison and uncover what types of work were done in prisons historically.

Free activity included with your museum ticket.

Wednesday 27 May – Badge Making Workshop (10am-12pm)

Join us this half term to create your very own safety pin badge inspired by the 30 Objects Representing Justice Exhibition at the National Justice Museum. Show off your favourite colours, hobbies, use your imagination or borrow a slogan from the documents and objects on display.

This is a hands-on craft workshop and will involve hot glue, cutting and optional sewing. Recommended age is 7+

Book here.

Thursday 28 May – Mail Bag Sewing (11am-3:30pm)

Come and try your hand at sewing a mini mailbag and learn more about the types of work prisoners were expected to do in the County Gaol from the 1840s.

Find us in the Victorian conditions cell in the 1800s cell block.

Free activity included with your museum ticket.
