Whitework/Hard Labour

Inspired by the tradition of fine needlework in Victorian and Edwardian prisons. Sewing was once a cornerstone of prison life, used by reformers to instil discipline, teach valuable skills, and prepare inmates for a life of honest work after release.

In this workshop, you will embroider nature-inspired motifs onto a white cotton handkerchief, echoing the fine whitework traditions practised by prisoners over a century ago.

Suitable for all abilities, no experience is necessary.
