COURT IN SESSION
LOCATION: NOTTINGHAM, OUTREACH
These thought-provoking courtroom workshops explore a contemporary criminal or civil case.
Students will:
- Explore the roles in a courtroom
- Prepare and enact a trial based on a real contemporary case
- Discuss and debate real sentencing options
- Learn about the law and justice system and consequences of breaking the law
- Be encouraged to use their rights and responsibilities to become more active citizens
Curriculum links include: PSHE, Citizenship, English and Law

Key Stage 2 Themes Available:
Cyberbullying
- A 13-year-old girl is charged with harassment against a fellow schoolgirl, who accuses her of cyberbullying and threatening behaviour.
Robbery
- A young boy is charged with robbery, accused of stealing another boy’s mobile phone in a park.
Knife Crime (Upper KS2/ Years 5-6 Only)
- A 14-year-old boy is charged with violent disorder and possession of a weapon.
Hate Crime (Upper KS2/ Years 5-6 Only)
- After posting the lyrics of a song online, a 19-year-old is charged with sending an offensive message by means of a public electronic communication network.
This is available as our usual trial session or as a workshop which includes a fully scripted trial and discussion-based activities around social media, fake news and the impact of hate crime on victims and perpetrators.
Create Your Own Court Case
- An ideal opportunity for students to explore the law and justice system whilst delving deeper into fictional texts that they are studying in the classroom. Pupils will put their chosen character on trial in an activity that will help them to improve their debating and analytical skills, as well as their understanding of key texts.
